How do I give a discount on products and services?

In KennelSuite’s world, a product or service is sold at a certain price. Because of this view, KennelSuite doesn’t understand the concept of a discount in the sense of a negative number.

For example, if your daily rate for boarding a single pet is $20, and you give the second pet a 10% discount, the second pet’s rate is $18.

To accomplish this in KennelSuite, you should add an additional item to the Boarding category of your price list. Name the item “Boarding, 2nd Pet”, or whatever you prefer, and set its price to $18. Your receptionist will select the standard boarding item for the first pet, and the discounted item for the second pet.

You can add as many of these variations as you want, such as 3rd Pet, Long Term, Senior Citizen, etc. With this system, you and your customer will see exactly what was sold and why, as opposed to a negative number applied to the bottom line.

In the previous example, if you applied a discount as a subtraction, the receipt for two pets would be $20 + $20 - $2 = $38.

With KennelSuite’s system, the receipt would show $20 + $18 = $38. In the latter case, your sales reports will show your revenue for each item

Prices changed in price list don't appear on reservations

Symptom: You changed your prices in the price list but the 'old' price appears on reservations and folios

Cause: You probably forgot to change the prices on all the FastPath levels. KennelSuite doesn't make up its own prices. Every price comes from the price list. If KennelSuite doesn't find a price in the price list, it uses zero.

Solution: It’s easiest to print your price list on paper and examine it closely. You’ll find those old prices and can then quickly find/fix/delete them in the price list. It’s hard to visualize the FastPath system on a monitor so printing on paper is the best way to see everything.

Recover items that were deleted from the price list

Symptom: You deleted some items or categories and want to undelete them. This applies to versions greater than 8.0 and less than 8.2

Solution: Download and run this small utility.

Overflow. Error 6

Symptom: KennelSuite displays an error message and won't start. This affects version 8 prior to 8.1.5

Solution: KennelSuite is doing some housekeeping to clean up an old error that left a balance of less than $0.01 on the walkin account due to a rounding error when calculating sales tax. This only occurred with certain combinations of item price and tax rate.

We have determined that it doesn't affect your sales, payments, taxes, or owners' accounts so you shouldn't be concerned.

Download and run this small utility to zero the walkin account. You may have to run it periodically until we release the next version of KennelSuite, which will include the permanent fix.

How do I use the Help system?

As you work in Plane Suite, you can obtain information about windows or dialogs by using the context-sensitive Help or Plane’s Help facility. You can access this Help in the following ways:

  • Use the context-sensitive help by pressing F1 at any time to get more information about that specific topic.

  • In the Main window, open the Help menu and select Help.  This will display Plane’s help facility.  You can select the topic by entering in a keyword on the index tab or search tab.

  • Help buttons on dialogs. Click the Help button and a topic opens in a custom window that gives instructions on how to use that topic.
